Palmer Road post office, 50 km west of Cooktown, opened on 2 August 1886 and closed on 5 July 1887. It moved to Sandown, 30 km north north east of Laura, on 6 July 1887 before closing on 7 October 1888. It then moved to Laura, 210 km north west of Cairns, on 8 October 1888 before closing and moving to Fairview, 16 km from Laura, in February 1903. Laura reopened at the railway station in July 1904/5
