29 - Theresa Creek / Coppermines / Clermont

Theresa Creek post office, 22 km south of Clermont, opened in 1863 and closed on 31 December 1863 before moving to Coppermines, 7 km south of Clermont, on 1 January 1864 and then being used at Clermont, 108 km north west of Emerald, from when it opened on 1 July 1864. This numeral is only found on Chalons

Chalon Ray Type 1b (6.5 mm) (37 Rays) is rated 2R for Clermont but 5R for tied Theresa Creek examples

Re Allocation:

Clermont post office, 108 km north west of Emerald, opened 1 July 1864. This numeral is only found on Chalons

Chalon Ray Type 1f (5 mm) (24 Rays) is rated 2R. Seen used until 1872

Clermont date stamps HERE. Clermont numeral 63 HERE. Clermont numeral 612 HERE. Clermont registered HERE

Apart from the differences in height, the end bottom of the 9 is curved upwards for Type 1b and straighter for Type 1f. It would appear that Type 1b was used first at Clermont and Type 1 f was issued later

Note that the dates listed by Joan Frew for the closing of Theresa Creek and the opening of Coppermines and Clermont are either incorrect as a Theresa Creek cover dated 5 March 1865 exists (shown below), or else the Theresa Creek date stamp continued to be used for some time after the post office moved to Clermont. The earliest date stamp seen for Clermont so far is dated 15 October 1867
